Introduction to Entrepreneurship (Strategies for Building a Saleable, Scalable, Successful and Sustainable Business)

Introduction to Entrepreneurship provides participants with an in-depth introduction to the world of entrepreneurship and sufficient knowledge to start, streamline and scale any entrepreneurial venture in the future. This course conveys the practical realities of entrepreneurship while exposing students to best of class theoretical concepts, tips, tools and techniques, the program will be taught by Cordell Williams Graham, President of the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Jamaica and CEO of Transformational Life Solutions, a Life and Business Coaching Training and Consulting company in Jamaica.

Unit 1: Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship

  • What is entrepreneurship?
  • Benefits of entrepreneurship to the individual, family, community and country
  • Difficulties with entrepreneurship
  • Characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and how to develop them
  • Business Owner vs. Entrepreneur
  • Intrapreneur vs. Entrepreneur
  • Legal Business Structures

Unit 2: The Entrepreneurial Process

  • The process of entrepreneurship from Start Up to Harvest
  • Identifying opportunity vs. idea
  • Evaluating ideas vs. opportunity using Business Model Canvas
  • Lean Start Up Model

Unit 3: Business Pitching

  • Different types of investors
  • Making your business into a SURE investment
  • Elements of an elevator pitch
  • Developing a Growth Strategy
  • General dos and don’ts in pitching

Unit 4: General Strategies for building a Saleable, Scalable, Successful and Sustainable Business

  • Beginning a business with the end in mind
  • Strategic Planning and Goal Setting
  • How to effectively market your business
  • Promoting Sales Growth
  • Human Resource Management 
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Leadership
  • Financial Management 


Methods of Instruction

The Course will primarily be instructor led using an online power point presentation. These presentations will be supported by:

  1. Relevant Video interviews
  2. Case studies
  3. There will also be live presentations and question and answer from entrepreneurs operating throughout the Caribbean region


Evaluation

There will be no quizzes or examinations. However, students will be assessed based on their participation. Students will also participate in a pitching competition at the end of the course where they will be assessed for their application of the lessons learned to a hypothetical or existing business model.

The presentations will be judged by business leaders across the USVI providing students with potential opportunity to gain funding or technical guidance to launch their business concepts after the completion of the CAMP. All students will also receive a certification of completion.
